New
Ideas in Management From MmIT
The development of digitisation and the growth of hybrid libraries
open up the management of information services to new ideas current
in mainstream management theory and evident in practice in other
knowledge-based sectors
and areas of the creative industries.
The Multimedia Information & Technology Group ran a management
workshop on new ideas in library management on the 20th October
2005 at Cilip Headquarters. The day was highly participative,
including opportunities for group and
individual working. The workshopl identified the major changes
in contemporary information services organisation, and explore
the implications of these changes for information services managers
and staff. Of value to practising managers and anyone interested
in management education and development, by the end of
the day participants were able to
-
Identify the major changes taking place in libraries and information
services
-
Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of these changes
for organisational structures, leadership, motivation, key aspects
of human resource management, and personal and professional
development
-
Create a plan for translating these ideas into achievable actions
in the workplace
