LIBRARY ASSOCIATION MULTIMEDIA & IT GROUP
With the
move to CILIP came many changes and opportunities for the Group. LAMIT became
MmIT, with a new name, a new logo and new publicity materials. The opportunity
to build links with UKOLOG was welcomed. Observers now join each other's
Committee Meetings and a journals swap is being established.
The MmIT
journal was re-launched in 2002 in what has proved to be popular A4 format.
Housekeeping of the journal has also been revised with new rationalised (Group
and journal) accounts, a review of subscriptions and a push to increase
advertising revenue.
The Group's Web site (mmit.org) was also revised with a brand new design
and new services, including discussion areas and a Hot Topics feature. The site
now attracts over 3,000 hits per month.
The MmIT events programme goes
from strength to strength. A highlight of the year was a Content Management day
in April which attracted over 130 delegates. 2002 also saw the move to
providing workshops on themes such as DVDs in libraries, Portals and developing
DTP skills. Alongside all this were events held by our NW and Scottish
Sub-Groups, and a student place sponsored by the Group at the IFLA Conference.
